Best of Summer - Part 2 {July}

July was a good month! We had a lot of good times as a family... the best of life is just these simple moments where we get to be goofy and just enjoy each other!

Take for example, how excited Mike was to get his virtual reality goggles...  Admittedly these things are pretty fun to play with!

Or how excited he was to score these sweet mud boots at Scheels.  Wesley is checking him out ... not sure if he approves or not!

This is a daily occurrence for Wesley... He likes to move the barstools and go eat all the food he dropped during his lunch. Ugh he's gross. I've even caught him scavenging in the garbage for food (lest you think I don't feed him, I do... you would be surprised at the amount of food he puts down then STILL wants to act like an orphan child eating crumbs off the floor.  He's a little Oliver Twist.. "Please sir, can I have some more?"

At the Outdoor Campus inside one of the trees! The O.C. is one of our favorite hangs, especially in the summer time when we can run out and play in the sand pit!

Saw this little guy hanging out in the flowers at the O.C.

Sand pit fun... they could stay here all day and they wouldn't complain!

We took a mini family trip to Omaha ... Daddy had  a PT test so we made a weekend out of it!  We stopped at the temple and walked around the grounds.  The Winter Quarters temple is unique in spirit as the cemetery where so many Saints who died during the winter of 46 are buried.  We walked around the grounds and went to the visitors center to attempt to teach the kids some of their heritage!

We also got to spend a day at the Omaha Zoo!  It was pretty cool.  The main event for the kids was the train ride and then just a tree house type of park they had inside the zoo.

Getting ready to embark on the train!

Calvin enjoying the tree house slide

This is in a cool desert themed bio-dome part of the zoo.  The kids enjoyed walking around in here and since it was pretty hot outside we like this part too!

We stayed at Offutt lodging. While Mike did his PT test we had some ice cream cones on the little patio outside. The boys were in chocolate heaven :)

The entire time we were there they wanted to go and "touch the rockets" that were right across from lodging.  Before we left we made a stop to let them get out and see the missiles (which turned out to be pretty interesting - those things are massive).  I'd never seen one up close either.  Dad just enjoyed it because he'd finished his test and was pretty pleased to not have to worry about it for another 6 months!  Way to go Daddy :)

Those are the main events of July!  We are soaking up every delicious day of summer since it seems so short (at the time I am writing this it is mid-august... so our warm summer days are numbered).

Until next time!

Best of Summer - Part 1 {June}

This summer has been so much fun!  With back to school coming up so soon I thought it would be fun to re-visit some of the best memories from our summer :)

We love Sioux Falls trails!  We have done biking and walking along the trails, and there are TONS of parks so whenever we get tired we just stop and sit down while the boys enjoy the playground.  Check out this scenery - does it get any more beautiful than this?

Getting settled in their bike trailer for a ride around town!

Another fun outing is the 1 foot pool at our gym! The boys love the slides and splashing in the water : D

This is my favorite sequence of pictures of Wesley ... that kid cracks me up everyday!

Taking it easy and gaming with daddy!

Calvin really enjoyed going on some of the rides at the "Teapot Days" carnival (Wesley was way too scared)

One of my favorite parts of the boys routine is bathtime... after their baths they love to get in their monsters towels and go "scare" daddy.

Family nights... this one was a hit.  We told the story of Ammon and how he saved the kings sheep by chopping off the robbers arms... The boys took it to heart and love their swords that make them just like Ammon!

We have been enjoying our zoo passes!  The zoo is kind of small but it's the perfect size for the boys to run around.

Visiting Sister Johnson at Honeybaked Ham and getting to see the kitchen where they make the sandwiches really made the boys day (as you can tell by Wesley running around like he just won a million dollars)

We did have a hard week... I got tonsillitis and then a few days later Calvin got strep!  That was kind of a bummer weekend but he LOVED getting a turn to put on the stethoscope and listen to the doctors heartbeat.

Some more park favorites.. look at these cuties!

We took a Sunday afternoon and walked around Palisades State Park.  There were some fun trails and beautiful rock formations!

It's been a busy summer and I've loved every second with my boys <3
