I have an announcement!

And no, I'm not pregnant...

BUT...

I am so excited because this week Dan & Krystal got engaged!  I still have yet to hear the whole story... But I am sure it was romantic and sappy in every way.  I love hanging out with Krystal.. we've already concocted some fun plans that our men don't know about yet... AND I am even more excited that they are coming to HAWAII for their honeymoon!  SCORE!

This is the photo that they sent right after it all happened.. with the caption.. "She said of course." :D

I love cheesy stories like this.  And I am super excited for my new sister in law! :D

Congrats Dan & Krystal!!

Really, bike cop? REALLY?

Sometimes, I really hate cops.  ESPECIALLY bike cops.  You know when you get pulled over by a bike cop there is no chance of getting out of anything.  A ticket is inevitable.  With that being said, let me begin my story...

I was driving down 36th street in Ogden... There were some cones up and the turning lane was closed.  I continued on my way, not thinking much of it... when suddenly in my rearview mirror there appeared those flashing lights that make your heart drop.

And it was a BIKE COP.  Ugh.

So, he pulls me over and I roll down my window.. genuinely surprised that I was being pulled over.  He asked me the usual dumb question.. "Do you know how fast you were going?"  Duh.  Of course I know how fast I was going, but I am not going to admit guilt to you, sir.

At this point my heart is racing and I'm trying to decide whether I should conjure up some tears or not... I decided not to (THAT ladies and gentlemen, was probably a mistake... although this guy was heartless anyway).

"I'm not sure officer."

"36 mph!"

"Wait... isn't that ONE mile over the speed limit?"

"You were in a construction zone.  It has been reduced to 25 mph there.  That means the fine will double."

REALLY??  There were approximately three cones up.  And no workers.

Traffic school.  That's how I really wanted to spend my break in Utah.  Thanks a lot Ogden PD.

THE END.

Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone

I know... this is totally lame, so if you don't like reading lame blog posts, then you should stop.

Seriously. Stop now.

Okay, I warned you. If you're still reading this you can't hold me accountable for the sappiness.

I just miss my husband. This week I had some very meaningful conversations with family members that made the reality set in that life will never be the same again... Living far away from family, deployments, pursuing my own career, school, focusing on my own family... It's all just setting in and sometimes it's hard! I know that change leads to growth and it's not a bad thing, just hard at times.

I married the greatest man ever. I can't imagine life without him. Never before have I had so much in common with someone, laughed so hard, talked so long, gone through so much. Our relationship hasn't been an easy one, and I think that's what makes it so meaningful. He is my best friend. And right now I miss him... a lot. I am glad we can talk over the phone and e-mail back and forth, that helps. But physical prescence makes such a difference. Which is why I am so grateful that I will get to see him for a week between these missions. :D

But until I get to see him... you have to endure this sappy & emotional side me!

Only 20 days left until we meet again! :D

"If the military wanted you to have a spouse... they would have issued you one."

Sometimes, I think this quote is so true.  The military does not care about spouses!  ESPECIALLY when they schedule back-to-back missions in Laos.  I don't get to see my hubby until ... drumroll... July 26!

oh.my.heck.that's.a.long.time.

So, I have decided to do a little update - with happenings from

LAOS

and

UTAH!

I guess we need to back up a little.. let's start off with a little Hawaii.  Before I left, I hiked the beautiful Maunawili Falls.  So we hiked barefoot up this muddy mountain, and swam in this Lagoon, then jumped off a WATERFALL. :)

It's a must see for anyone who comes to visit.

It was a really fun escape and I love discovering beautiful places!  Although I have to admit my feet were KILLING me by the end of the hike.  I wouldn't recommend the barefoot thing.

Okay.  Moving on to ... Laos!  Mike seems to like it there and has gone out exploring almost every day.  I'll just include a few of the photos of what he is up to on his first tour of duty there!

The view behind the hotel

Mike's room

"On one of our walks we went a couple of miles south of town which is where I took the pictures of the shop/house built over the pond.."

"As we were heading back towards town a little dog walked by us, but we were talking and didn't notice that he has turned around and started following us.  He followed us all the way back to our compound so we gave him some water and I took the picture of him that I attached.  I guess we have a new friend."

"Today we decided to go exploring in a different direction to find a Buddhist temple..."

"As we approached the temple, two kids (pictured with me) approached us and started talking to us in broken but understandable English.  We found out they were both 16 and were there along with the rest of the townspeople to give offerings to the monks to celebrate the full moon.  We asked if we were allowed inside and they were more than happy to escort us in.  They took us toward the Buddha statue where there were about 10 monks of all different ages from 5 or 6 to 70 or 80 sitting."

"The boys sat us down and asked if we would like a blessing from the monk and we said sure so they asked for an offering ( I put in 10,000 Kip which is about $1.50) and the priest tied a little thread bracelet around both of our wrists and said a chant and then blew on it.  The kids told me I shouldn't cut it and that it would bring good luck and health.  (Unfortunately the monk didn't tie it well and it came undone 2 minutes later, so I spent the rest of the time trying to tighten a half-knot to keep it on my wrist until we left so they wouldn't think I took it off.  So much for my luck)"

I guess life is an adventure no matter where you are!

Here are a few snapshots of what I've been doing in Utah during this same time period... :)

My sweet nephews were excited about their candy leis!

Visiting with my brother in law & future sister in law! :)

Eating out at Piccolo Brothers Pizza the night I got back!

Our Mother's Day Party!  Molly in her adorable Hawaiian dress.

The boys were SO excited to eat at Chuck-O-Rama!

Improv with some great friends!  Always a good time.  Not to mention late night Denny's... One of my FAVORITE things in the world!

My sweet mother in law sent me this bracelet and I am going to wear it for this first tour of duty.  I am so greatful to have such an insightful mother-in-law.  Only wish we lived a bit closer! :)

Life is good!  Even if the distance is hard, I am glad there are ways we can communicate with one another.  I couldn't be happier! :D

First day flying solo!

Today was my first full day without my hubby! He called me this morning from

Thailand...

We got to talk for about ten minutes before he lost a signal .. At this point he has probably arrived in

Laos...

What a lucky man.. who gets to travel the world!

Meanwhile, I am back here in Hawaii, which isn't a bad gig either. I miss him... but today my friend Liz took me to Chinatown and we had some adventures getting yelled at by angry asians for trying on things we weren't supposed to..

Was it worth the reprimand?

HECK YES.

This is Liz playing with the little puppet shortly before the yelling incident occurred...

And me as he was yelling at us to stop taking pictures..

I also decided I want one of these robes too... You can't see very well but they are silky and super comfy!

I was glad I had someone to distract me from Mike being gone.

And this Friday I am flying home to UTAH! I can hardly wait to see the family and pass the time with the people I love the most. :D Happy Monday!

Nature of God

I found this paper that I wrote at BYU, and thought I should share... One of the doctrines that I am most thankful to know about is the Nature of God and our potential to become like him. It is misunderstood or often not understood at all. I did a lot of research on this at a time in my life where I was one who was confused by the conflicting doctrines that different Christian religions offer.

Today there is much debate in the Christian world over the nature of God. Some gospel scholars say that God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are all one being. Others claim that Jesus Christ embodies the Father and that the Holy Ghost is a separate spirit. It is not surprising that one of Satan's main tactics is to attack a person's very perception of God for if we don't know Him, how can we realize our potential to become like Him? As a member of the true church, I know, nothing doubting, that the God head is constituted by three different beings, each completely unified in purpose.
Many would argue that this directly contradicts scriptures in the Bible, and even scriptures in our own Book of Mormon. John 10:30 says, "I and my Father are one." In Mosiah 15:4 it reads, "And they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth." The scriptures are full of passages that claim that God the Father and Jesus Christ are one. How can we explain this seemingly contradiction of our beliefs?
It is necessary to understand the roles of Jesus CHrist to understand the nature of God. Jesus Christ is in fact our Father -- when we are baptized, we are spiritually born of him, and "[we] shall be called the children of Christ, His sons, and His daughterss." (Mosiah 5:7) Jesus Christ is also the Son, and in this way, He is the advocate between us and our Heavenly Father. When we stand in our imperfection to be judged, He will plead our case before the Father, if we will only utilize the atonement here. Jesus Christ really is, ultimately, the Father and the Son.
Elder Jeffery R. HOlland said, "One of the first and foremost articles of faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints says, "We believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His son, Jesus Christ, and in the HOly Ghost." We believe these three divine beings, constituting a single godhead are united in purpose, manner, testimony and mission. We believe them to be filled the same godly sense of mercy and love, justice and grace, patience, forgieness, and redemption. I think it is accurate to say we beleie they are one in every significant and eternal aspect imaginable, except believing them to be three persons combined in one substance, a Trinitarian notion not set forth in the scriptures, because it is not true."
The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one in that they are completely unified in purpose and mission. In Genesis 2:24 it says, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and he shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." This scripture refers to a man and wife being completely unified in mission and purpose; it doesn't literally mean that they become one body, with one dwelling inside the other. If this scripture isn't literal, perhaps all scriptures may not be literal. All the passages of scripture that suggest that the Godhead is one may ust as well mean that they are one in purpose and mission, not one in body.
Luckily, we are not left to wonder what the scriptures mean; we have prophets of God who have the authority to interpret for us the "mysteries of God." (D&C 10:64). In Doctrine and Covenants 130:22 it reads, "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as a man's; the son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us." This coupled with Joseph Smith's first vision makes the nature of God a fundamental doctrine of the LDS church that cannot be misconstrued in any way. In Joseph Smith History 1:17 it reads, "I saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name, and said, pointing to the other - This is my beloved Son. Hear Him!"
From modern day revelation, the testimony of Joseph Smith, and our perception of the roles of Jesus Christ, we can understand the nature of the Godhead. With this knowledge we can understand more fully what we have the potential to become and who we can rely on as the source of our salvation.
