{Our Caribbean Escape Part 1: The Adventure Begins}

Our family vacation this year was one not to be forgotten!  We have been home for nearly a week now and I am still in denial about reality and the lack of a glass case filled with desserts that I have 24/7 access too (spoiler alert: we were on a cruise).

The next few blogs will be dedicated to our travel adventures and experiences I will remember for a lifetime!

Our flights heading out to Florida went very well!  At the airport Cal was entranced by watching the airplanes taxi and seeing all the trucks carrying baggage.

This was Wesley's first flight so I was nervous but he did very well - fell asleep during take-off and slept most off the time!

The flight attendant had good intentions when she offered to let Calvin see the inside of the cockpit, but the tantrum that ensued when we had to leave was out of this world... goodness.   I will never forget walking past the people who were already seated as Calvin kicked, screamed at the top of his lungs and contorted his body in every unnatural way possible to show his displeasure at being forced to sit down.  There were sympathetic glances from other parents who'd traveled this road before and then there were the people who looked away as I passed who were silently praying "Please Lord, not by me."

Luckily this was him five minutes later (seriously, he fell asleep before everyone had even finished boarding).

Long story short, we made it!  With two active little guys in tow.

The next step was boarding the "Nieuw Amsterdam" our cruise ship home for the next week.

This was the view from Grandma & Grandpa's cabin - the boys enjoyed that little ledge and watching other boats in the harbor go by!

This was the view from our balcony as we settled in!  Weary travelers at this point - ready to kick into relax mode and start enjoying the trip!

This ship is the Royal Caribbean "Allure of the Seas" (the following week we'd change ships to this one and sail through the eastern Caribbean).

A beautiful Sunday sky as we set sail that evening.  Bon voyage!

Calvin enjoyed trotting around this new scene and seeing so many different things going on.  His favorite place on the Nieuw Amsterdam was probably the stairs in the atrium because they had lights underneath them.  I think he feels quite impressed with himself when he goes up and down the stairs - one of his milestones he's rather proud of. :)

Oh my heavens, the amount of food Wesley consumed was unreal.  He was sure to let you know promptly if his supply had run out - and it wasn't a pleasant reminder so we were typically pretty good at keeping him well-fed this trip.  At his Dr.'s appointment when we got home the doctor commented on his growth and said she hadn't seen such a drastic jump in weight percentile in a long time.  So obviously he grasped the concept of cruising and binge eating early.  That's my boy. :)

One sleepy boy awaiting his Grandpa to come watch him so Mom & Dad could go on a date night.

This duo was quite good - a cellist and pianist that called themselves "Adagio." They performed all week at different times and it was fun to hear some wonderful music throughout our trip.

I'll be back with more soon :)
