My thoughts on Sandy Hook.

So often, hymns preach sermons more powerful than speeches by the most eloquent orator, or words spoken by any man.  Music can  penetrate the heart, and fill the soul with the spirit of Christ.  Such was the case for me as I heard these lyrics.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men."

Till ringing singing, on its way,
THe world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

  I was thinking about the recent tragedy in Connecticut... and as my heart filled with sorrow for the families mourning the loss of their precious children, I too pondered if there was peace on earth. As I sang the lyrics of this song I remembered that there is peace on earth; that insofar as we allow Christ into our lives we can feel of the solace and peace that the gospel brings.
