This weekend Mike and I took an impromptu trip to Kauai. Our time here in Hawaii is winding down, and we really haven't gotten to explore the other islands too much! So we decided a little getaway to Kauai was in order.
Kauai is so peaceful and quant. There are building ordinances there that allow buildings to be no taller than the coconut trees - so it is very country and quaint. The tallest building is only 4 stories!
Mike and I woke up super early to catch a 5:45 flight over to the island. We started out with a drive around the island, beginning with the Ninini Lighthouse.
We watched the locals fishing, but he didn't catch anything this morning.
We spotted a honu!
And tons of whales were out playing! This one was the baby.
After our whale-watching we drove over to these amazing 73 feet waterfalls - Wailua Falls.
Also stopped by the historic Kilauea Lighthouse - this lighthouse is the oldest on Kauai.
For lunch we enjoyed some delicious calzones at Pau Hana Pizza.
We stopped by a craft fair in Lihue and Mike found this coconut yoda head and just about fell in love.
We were able to check in our resort at four and spent some time exploring the grounds, and I experimented with my new camera!
On the way down to Queen's Bath we saw a beautiful little waterfall!
A hike down to Queen's Bath showed us some of the greatest swells we could possibly imagine!
Waimea Canyon - Mark Twain coined the term for this beauty as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" and it was amazing to behold!
Our last day we were able to take an amazing tour of the Napali Coast, and Mike snorkeled in some super clear waters. I, of course, get super panicky even thinking about snorkeling.. super lame.
View from the Ka'lau'lau Lookout
Beautiful island sunrise
Spinner dolphins circling our boat and showing off.
Beautiful views of the Napali coast.
Humpback whale sightings all through out the ride - they were beautiful and swimming right next to our boat!
Clear blue waters.
Hanging out with this handsome man of mine!
This was our favorite restaurant of the trip - we ate here twice! We also stopped by the Papalani Gelato store twice as well.. what can I say, we found our favorites!
Needless to say it was an extremely relaxing and fun filled getaway. Love traveling the world with my best friend!
